Universe Guitare (France) has famously dubbed Artyom Dervoed the “Tsar of the guitar”. This bold claim is backed by the growing international demand, an active recording career, and no less than 16 first place awards in various international competitions. A regular guest on the world’s most prestigious stages, including the Berliner Philharmonie, Kölner Philharmonie, Tonhalle Düsseldorf, Carnegie Hall, Jordan Hall, Bunka Kaikan, and Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, Artyom Dervoed is among the most eminent champions of the classical guitar. Having mastered the entire standard orchestral, chamber and solo guitar literature, he is significantly expanding the existing repertoire through collaborations with leading composers, whose works he inspires, commissions and performs.

Artyom Dervoed fell in love with the guitar as a child and became the first Russian to win two of the most prestigious contests, Michele Pittaluga Guitar Competition in Italy and Her Royal Highness Princess Cristina Competition in Spain. The international attention allowed him to focus on recording projects, including the album of new works by Russian composers, which was released worldwide on Naxos in 2008 and became one of the top ten-bestselling chamber music records. “If your current budget runs to just a single item, make this the one,” advised the UK Classical Guitar Magazine. The following year, Mr. Dervoed recorded the music of the Cuban classical guitar legend Leo Brouwer. His latest release (Ghosts & Shadows, Melodia Records, 2015) representing a survey of the 500 years of Spanish music, was nominated for the ICMA Best Solo Performance Award in the “Solo Instruments” category.

A magnetic personality and a bona fide virtuoso, Artyom Dervoed has an active media profile in Russia. He is frequently invited to speak on TV and radio about the classical guitar, its historic significance, musical versatility and exciting future. The recent world premiere of Stephen Goss’s Guitar Concerto based on Paganini’s Grand Sonata for Guitar and Violin, with Mikhail Pletnev and the Russian National Orchestra, was nationally televised, reaching hundreds of thousands of viewers.

Mr. Dervoed is the head of the classical guitar department at the Bashmet Center in Moscow and teaches a select group of young players at the prestigious Gnesin Academy as well as the Moscow State University of Culture & Arts.

Artyom Dervoed is the co-founder and Artistic Director of the annual Guitar Virtuosi Moscow International Festival, presented by the Moscow Philharmonic at the Tchaikovsky Hall. Its programs feature Sergio and Odair Assad, Boris Berezovsky and other international stars in solo, chamber and orchestral performances, including Russian and world premieres of new guitar repertoire, all of which are streamed online. Last year’s festival opened with Mr. Dervoed’s performance of his own transcription of Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Svetlanov State Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Fabio Mastrangelo.

Born in Southern Russia, Artyom Dervoed began his guitar studies with Sergey Annikov, Elena Svetozarova and Leonid Reznik. He later trained with Prof. Nikolay Komolyatov at the Schnittke Music College and Gnesin Academy in Moscow, Aniello Desiderio at the Koblenz Guitar Academy in Germany, and Oscar Ghiglia at Accademia Chigiana in Italy. Recognized as “a musician with a wide dynamic range, an intelligent and expressive phrasing, and a technical facility with no discernible limitations,” (Editions Orphee, USA), he has received honorary scholarships from the City of Moscow, Vladimir Spivakov International Foundation, and the Russian Foundation for the Performing Arts.

Artyom Dervoed uses D’Addario strings and is the first Russian classical guitarist endorsed by Yamaha.


MIRZOYAN QUARTET | STRING QUARTET

Mirzoyan string quartet of soloists was named after the famous Armenian composer Edvard Mirzoyan as a result of the close cooperation between Aram Asatryan,  Sona Azaryan, Armen Torosyan and Vahan Grigoryan. Mirzoyan quartet members perform together since 1993.

Aram Asatryan (Violin I) was born in Armenia in 1970 and is a founding member and first violin of the Armenian Serenade Chamber Orchestra and concertmaster at the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra. Aram Asatryan studied at Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas. He performs with the Symphony Orchestra of India and as a soloist at the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra. Aram Asatryan teaches violin and chamber music at Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas and is a laureate of national and international competitions. He is a co-founder of “Mirzoyan Quartet”. Aram Asatryan plays a Joseph Guarneri violin 1732.

Sona Azaryan (Violin II) was born in Armenia in 1980 and is an artist and creator of the Quartet of soloists at the “New Russia” State Symphony Orchestra and a permanent member of the Moscow Philharmonic concert orchestra as well as a participant to many other Russian festivals of chamber music. Sona Azaryan studied at Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas and attended master classes with world-renowned violinists. She is a laureate of national and international competitions, performed with the National Chamber orchestra of Armenia, “Serenade” and “Armenian Virtuosi” chamber orchestras. Sona Azaryan is a co-founder of “Mirzoyan Quartet”. She is the President of “Menq enq” a charitable social foundation, a freelance journalist and plays a Joseph Klotz violin 1794.

Armen Torosyan (viola) was born 1979 and studied at Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas. He performed with “Altunyan string quartet”,” Nairi” quartet and is an artist of the Armenian State Symphony orchestra. He is also a laureate of national and international competitions and a co-founder of “Mirzoyan Quartet”. Armen Torosyan plays a Shahen Yeritsyan viola 1965.

Vahan Grigoryan (cello) was born in 1973 and studied at Yerevan State Conservatory after Komitas. He performed with the National Chamber orchestra of Armenia ,”Serenade” chamber orchestra, and is currently and artist of the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra. Laureate of national and international competitions, Vahan Grigoryan is a co-founder of “Mirzoyan Quartet” and plays a Georgius Thir cello 1818.
