Félicien Brut is now recognized as one the most innovative and eclectic accordionists of his generation. From popular music to erudite music, from improvisation to written work or from original pieces to the most unexpected transcripts, he keeps on defending the polymorphic characteristic of the young instrument that is the accordion.
Born in 1986 in the Auvergne Region, the ultimate land of traditional music and cradle of his instrument, Félicien began his musical training at 6 years old, with a first approach of the popular musette repertoire, inherently linked to his instrument’s history. In 1996, spotted by Jacques Mornet and Nathalie Boucheix, he entered in the National and International Academy of Music and Accordion (CNIMA – J. Mornet) where he discovered, through the numerous French and foreign accordionists, swing, classical and contemporary repertoires. Without choosing an aesthetic over another, he soon confirmed his desire to work with all styles and his wish to consider the musical act as free of any constraints, prejudices and any reportorial barriers.
In 2007, Félicien won successively the three most prestigious international accordion competitions: the International Competion of Kilngenthal in Germany, the International Competition of Castelfidardo in Italy and the Accordion World Trophy in Samara in Russia. These prizes led him in 2008 onto the international stages of many festivals in Russia, Italy, Norway, Finland, Portugal and Serbia.
In 2014, Félicien decided to pay tribute to the twentieth century musical icon, symbol of the alliance between popular and classical music: Astor Piazzolla. He created the Astoria Trio, a formation dedicated to the Nuevo Tango and he released in april 2016, his first album « Soledad del Escualo », which was enthusiastically welcomed by professionals. The same year, he created the Enigma Duo, combining violin and accordion to a repertoire without any temporal or stylistic boundaries.
In 2017, Félicien Brut decided to surround himself with Hermès quartet and double bassist Édouard Macarez within the surprising project « Le Pari des Bretelles », with the objective of bring together Classical Music and Musette. The success of this formation is immediate and led him to perform in prestigious concert halls and festivals like « La Seine Musicale », « Les Flâneries Musicales de Reims », les « Folles journées de Nantes et de Tokyo », etc.
Félicien was a guest of the festival « Un Violon sur Sable » in Royan for the creation of « Caprice d’accordéoniste », piece for soloist accordionist and symphony orchestra, a command to his fetish composer Thibault Perrine. In April 2019, he created the concerto « Souvenirs de Bal » with the orchestra of Cannes while continuing to discover his « Le Pari des bretelles » in Poland, Japan, Russia and in Germany.
