Leonid Bahtalin was born in Saratov in 1980. He is a soloist of the Moscow State Academic Theatre of Operetta, soloist of the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center, soloist of the Moskontsert, soloist of the Moscow State Philharmonic Society. When he was seven, his family moved to Vitebsk. In 2002, he graduated from Vitebsk State University, Physics and Mathematics department, majoring in Theoretical Physics. After graduation, he worked at Gazprom in Belarus, for two years.
In 2004, Leonid entered Ippolitov-Ivanov Music School. In a year time, he was transfered to the third year of studies at the Gnesin Music School (class of Margarita Landa). Later on, he entered the Russian University of Theatre Arts (GITIS) (Dmitry Bertman workshop, vocal class of Galina Borisova). In 2012, he graduated from the vocal class of Professor Maestro Zurab Sotkilava of the P.I. Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory. At the same time, he undertook an internship at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre under Galina Pavlovna herself.
Bahtalin is a participant in numerous international festivals as an artist and a jury member. His repertoire includes operatic and chamber music works by world famous composers: Tchaikovsky, Verdi, Borodin, Rachmaninoff, Glinka, Mozart, Wagner, Donizetti, Rossini, Sviridov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Boito and many others, as well as retro works and Soviet pop music.
Leonid collaborates with the Talents of the World Fund with such directors as Franco Zeffirelli, Ivan Popovski, Yuri Laptev, Polina Berten, Nikolay Kuznetsov, Inara Guliyeva, Tatiana Konstantinova, with such conductors as Alexander Solovyev (the Bolshoi Theatre), Vladimir Ponkin, Gianluca Marciano, Yaroslav Tkalenko, Pavel Lando, Alexander Petukhov, Konstantin Khvatinets, with such ensembles and soloists as Moscow Theatre of Operetta Orchestra, Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Center Orchestra, Moscow State Conservatory Orchestra and many others.
Bahtalin harvested many titles and awards such as the prestigious Gerard Vasiliev Fellowship award (2008). He is a winner of the competition “Romansiada” (2011) and of the Medal For Valorous Labour.
